Hello dear friends,

It’s time once again for me to send you warm greetings from Kenya—specifically from the banana grove at BlueMoon Farm. Before everyone heads into the busy, or perhaps more reflective—but in any case, truly special—end-of-year season, I’d like to take the opportunity to share some important news with you. Because, as always, a great deal has happened (though, in a way, even more than usual this year!).

In short: We have opened a village shop, built a project kitchen, completed the Kandongu school project, set a new course for the future, and are currently in the midst of a highly successful series of farmer training sessions on regenerative agriculture—a movement within the village that fills us with hope, joy, and courage!

Have you seen it yet?

My “Njoki” website has been revamped and updated; for instance, under “Project FaMoja,” you can now find plenty of up-to-date information on what my team and I spend our days working on.

Project News

Kandongu School Project Concluded

Do you remember? Were you there when, many years ago, I first reached out for support to build housing for teachers? I was 19 at the time. After 14 years of collaboration, we have now concluded our regular support for the Kandongu school project.

One reason is, the school has achieved what we always hoped it would: it has become an independent, self-sustaining institution that is also able to support children from low-income families. We have succeeded in this. Today, more than 500 children are being educated at the Fr. Michael Witte Centre, with a good 10% of them receiving sponsorship from the school.

Furthermore, Br. Francis Macharia has been reassigned to a new post after many years as head of the school. The steady development of the school is largely due to his dedication; we are now taking this moment of transition as an opportunity to shift the focus of our community work more toward extracurricular programs.

If you have been providing monthly support to the school, you should have already received a detailed email from Marie-Luise and me containing further information. If you haven’t, please get in touch with me.

We remain closely connected to the school and its community, and we thank you for the many years we have spent on this shared journey—a path that was not always easy, yet one we traveled together consistently.

PROJECT FAMOJA:

Where should I start?

The "Healthy Hub"

In April of this year, we opened the doors to our “Healthy Hub” in the village center of Kandongu. Our expectations have been exceeded. The “Hub” not only helps us cover fixed costs—such as the salaries of my four team members—but has also become the heart of our educational work on organic and regenerative agriculture. It serves as a meeting point and a space for farmers to exchange ideas and discuss their questions and concerns regarding health, the environment, and the future of agriculture in this region.

Learn more about our Healthy Hub HERE.

The Project Kitchen

Goodbye to makeshift shacks, camping stoves, and washing dishes at a water tank! We finally have a new project kitchen, complete with running hot and cold water (hooray!), a four-burner gas stove, and a refrigerator. A covered extension provides ample space for community activities. This infrastructure upgrade makes daily routines easier and more hygienic, while also ensuring a more reliable supply for our “Healthy Hub”!

Farmer’s Trainings

What a success! We are currently in the midst of training sessions for local farmers, where they are learning that a farm can function as an ecosystem rather than a monoculture—that chemicals can be replaced by the healing powers of nature, and that healthy soil can help fill their pockets instead of leaving them emptier with every passing season. To be honest, we are overwhelmed by the response and can’t wait to support these farmers on their journey from "conventional" to "regenerative" agriculture. All the groundwork laid over the years is finally bearing fruit!

NEW IN 2027!

I am especially excited to give you a preview of what’s coming in 2027: we are launching the “BlueMoon Academy.” A neighboring field is being transformed into a non-profit sports and cultural space, with parents stepping up as volunteer coaches. The goal is to provide children and teenagers with a safe, supervised environment for sports and creative activities every single day. It will be the first and only place of its kind in the entire region—a space where girls and boys of various ages can spend their free time in a guided, communal setting, rather than falling into the traps of drug use, early pregnancy, or a lack of vision for their future.

As you can see, we have big plans, and we are more confident than ever that our programs will not only bear fruit but that these small seeds will spread like wildfire. It’s truly inspiring—filling us with hope and excitement for what’s to come!

THANK YOU for being part of this journey with me and our team. THANK YOU for placing your trust in us and for your support!

WE COULDN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOU! Our ambition is to help hundreds of farmers restore the fertility and profitability of their land, and to provide hundreds of young people with safe learning spaces and a vision for their future.

Would you like to become a patreon of "a piece of better Earth" ?

As a regular sponsor, you can help us—quite literally—improve “a piece of the earth” and ensure that our non-profit programs can be planned for the long term.

ARE YOU IN? You can find more information HERE.

A brief video glimpse into our farmers' training from two days ago—an effort through which we are making "a piece of the earth" better.

I wish you a peaceful, wonderful transition into this final season of the year. I wish you and your family health and happiness. I wish you strength in your steps, clarity in your thoughts, love in your actions, and contentment in your heart.

With all my love from Kenya,

Jana

Hey, I'm writing for you live from Kenya!

The discrepancy between what we think we know about far away realities and the actual self-perception of people on the ground is especially visible to me in this time of 'global crisis'. Njoki creates contributions that...
